Why I’m Posting my Blog Posts on Medium- you Should be Too

I am slowly but surely going to get every one of my blog posts posted to Medium.

Here’s why, and how, you should be too.

WHY PUBLISH YOUR BLOG POSTS TO MEDIUM?

So, you’ve just published a new blog post. You’re probably going to be sharing it on your socials and then forget about it after that.

Not only should you be sharing your blog posts more than once, but you should also be sharing them on Medium as well. And here’s why.

1. SEND TRAFFIC BACK TO YOUR BLOG

While links on Medium are no-follow links (Which means you won’t get a whole ton of SEO benefit) these links are still useful to have!

You’re getting more eyes onto your content (readers from Medium) that you weren’t before. Since I’ve begun publishing on Medium people have been coming back to my blog from my Medium profile, or through links in my Medium blog posts.

2. MORE EXPOSURE TO YOUR CONTENT

Since links on Medium are no-follow, this means you can have affiliate links in your posts. If you didn’t know, affiliate links need to be no-follow since you are technically paid to put them there. (Or, will be paid if someone makes a purchase)

You can also get more sign-ups for your email list. If you write a blog post that has a relevant freebie to it, you could link to an email sign up and grow your list.

3. YOU CAN MAKE MONEY FROM MEDIUM

This is probably the main reason at least some of the writers on here started writing. I know it was a driving factor for me.

Being a full-time blogger, I fully believe in creating multiple income streams for yourself and your business.

And, I think it’s pretty cool that you can not only earn from posts while they are on your blog, but you can also reuse that content and post it to Medium as well to make money from it.

While it will take a long time to make money for Medium, I think it is beneficial to take a few extra minutes out of your day to earn some side income.

HOW TO ADD YOUR BLOG POSTS TO MEDIUM

Now, before you get excited and start copy-pasting every single blog post onto Medium- there is a right and a wrong way to publish your blog posts.

And I don’t mean by how you title or format your posts either.

If you just copy-paste your blog posts into Medium, it will actually hurt your blog posts. Instead, Medium has this cool input feature where you can add a link to your blog post and Medium will input the writing for you.

This is important because when Medium does this, they add a canonical link at the bottom of your blog post. This tells Google that this post was essentially an intentional copy.

What I mean is, if you were to just copy-paste, Google would see that as plagiarized content and it will hurt you.

However, what this canonical link does essentially is, it tells Google that the main blog post is the original (which is the blog post on your website) and all of the “SEO juice” should be given to that link.

Without that, your posts could be competing for the SEO benefits.

THE ISSUES WITH THIS METHOD

This method does however have some issues.

I noticed it sometimes skips paragraphs sometimes. Just entire paragraphs of my work will be gone.

And you also have to re-add images because it doesn’t.

But you still should use this method, to begin with when importing blog posts to Medium because of the canonical link that gets generated.

So my advice to avoid the issues of skipped content is to import the blog post with the input feature and then copy and paste the blog post manually to avoid missing content.

That way, the link is still added at the end, but you’re also not missing any paragraphs.

Medium is a great way to get more eyes onto your blog posts, which means more eyes on your affiliate links and maybe even traffic back to your blog!

Thanks for reading! If you enjoyed, don’t forget to leave a like to help other readers find my work and give me a follow if you want to see more of my work!
